Why I Built Mandala

I built Mandala Therapy from a belief that psychological care should see the whole person, not simply a diagnosis.

Throughout my career as a psychologist, I have had the privilege of working with people from many different backgrounds, cultures, languages, and life experiences. Again and again, I saw how deeply these factors can shape the way people experience mental health, understand illness, seek support, and heal.

I wanted to create something different.

Mandala was built around the idea that there is no single pathway to wellbeing. Psychology does not exist in isolation from biology, behaviour, culture, language, faith, family, environment, and lived experience. These elements interact in a complex way and understanding that complexity can help us provide better, more individualized care.

This became particularly important to me as I worked with individuals whose experiences did not always fit neatly within traditional systems of care. Sometimes the barrier was language. Sometimes it was culture, family dynamics, spirituality, access, or simply not feeling understood.

I wanted to build a practice where those differences were not obstacles to care, but part of the conversation.

Looking Toward the Future

My vision for Mandala continues to evolve.

I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Precision Health at the University of Calgary, because I believe the future of healthcare will be increasingly personalized, predictive, preventive, and participatory.

I believe psychology has an important place within that future.

Precision health asks us to move beyond treating people based solely on broad categories and toward understanding the individual factors that influence health and outcomes. For psychological care, this means considering not only symptoms and diagnoses, but also biology, behaviour, environment, culture, language, family, social context, and the individual’s lived experience.

My studies are allowing me to explore how evidence, data, prevention, and individualized approaches can contribute to better health outcomes while continuing to recognize something that technology and data alone cannot capture: the human being at the centre of care.

This is the direction I want Mandala to move toward.
